ASTM A106/ASME SA106 is the standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe applied for high temperature service. It includes three grades A, B and C and the commonly used grade is A106 Grade B. It is used in various industries not only for piping systems such as oil and gas, water, mineral slurry transmission, but also for boilers, construction, structural purposes ASTM A106 Grade B pipe is equivalent to ASTM A53 Grade B and API 5L B for chemical position and mechanical properties, generally use carbon steel and minimum yield strength 240MPa, tensile strength 415Mpa.

ASTM A106 and ASME SA106 covers seamless carbon steel nominal wall pipe for high-temperature service. Suitable for bending, flanging and similar forming operations. The test methods for ASTM A106 grades A, B, and C include flattening tests, hydrostatic tests, non-destructive electric tests, ultrasonic tests, eddy current tests, and flux leakage tests. These test procedures should be communicated and confirmed with the client to determine which specific tests will be applied.
The materials used for the specification of ASTM A106 standard should be applicable for bending, flanging or similar processes. Where a higher or higher grade is required for ASTM A106 steel pipe, the standard provides an optional specification for supplemental requirements for pipe using this standard. In case the steel material is to be welded, the welding process should be suitable for this grade of ASTM A106 and applicable for the high temperature working environment.
It is mainly used in oil, gas and chemical industries for the construction of pipeline systems and related structures. ASTM A106 Grade B is a seamless carbon steel pipe based on the ASTM A106 standard and designed to withstand high temperature and pressure environments.
The chemical composition of Grade B is designed to give it good heat resistance and workability. ASTM A106 Grade B steel pipe offers excellent tensile strength and good yield strength for applications requiring good mechanical properties. ASTM A106 Grade B pipes are produced through a seamless manufacturing process that ensures uniformity and strength for use in high stress environments.
